Chapter 23

STORY: Veni sighs, looking unhappy. He shakes his head. “I did not mean for any of this.”
ALEJO: “Assassinating folk has a funny way of getting messy.”
ALEJO: Alejo straps in.
STORY: “It was my first time.”
STORY: “I’m a teacher.”
STORY: “…They said I should do it for my people.”
TUELLER: “They always do.”

Chapter 22

TUELLER: “Now that I think of it, Doc, you’ve shot Loll multiple times.”
MILLICENT: “Oh yes, I suppose I have.”
MILLICENT: “Do you think I should get her a present?”
TUELLER: “Do I think…? Yeah, probably.”
MILLICENT: “An extra leg, perhaps?”
MILLICENT: “A back up.”
ALEJO: Alejo looks wounded. “Prolly, you should get everyone you’ve shot a present.” He then pauses to consider. “Well, call it even with me, I guess. I did get your stuff blow out into space, I guess.”
TUELLER: “Later, guys. We have work to do.”
TUELLER: “We can go Christmas shopping later.”
TUELLER: “Keep quiet and don’t get caught. Ejo and I will be back.”

Chapter 21

ALEJO: “Right. Tell us a bit about that. Who are you fighting and why?”
STORY: He stiffens. “The governor.”
STORY: “I can’t say more.”
STORY: “Yes, I poisoned her. But I did not harm Teka.”
STORY: “And yes, I _did_ try to help Teka control her abilities. We trained. I am not a liar.”
STORY: “All right. Yes, I locked myself in here.”
STORY: “It seemed.. the safest choice.”
STORY: “But now it has been rather a long time, and I very much would like to go.”
TUELLER: “Ejo, your time in interrogation training was well spent.”

Chapter 20

TUELLER: “Psychics.”
TUELLER: Tueller says that, and does not say anything else.
STORY: Tariq raises an eyebrow.
STORY: “What he said.”
MILLICENT: “Psychics!”
MILLICENT: Millie doesn’t catch the tone.
ALEJO: “Wait. Psychics?” Alejo is being a smart ass.
STORY: Jac says, “Psychics how?”
TUELLER: “Science psychics.”
MILLICENT: Millie nods, smiling
STORY: “Is that even a thing?” Jac wonders.
TUELLER: “Or Psychic Science.”

Chapter 19

STORY: “So, Soto, given that I can’t suss you out indirectly, I’d like you to tell me why I should send my baby brother into space with a double agent.”
TUELLER: “In his defense, he has saved my life multiple times.”
TUELLER: Tueller sounds meeker than you’ve heard him.
STORY: “Now why would he do that?”
STORY: She turns her back to the three of you, watching out the window behind her desk.
TUELLER: “He’s my co-captain.”
ALEJO: “He’s my family.” Alejo hits the middle word. “Cards on the table? I really was a triple agent. Or quadruple. I lose count. The point is that I am good at what I do. I choose this. It’s not about masters and debts. It’s about choice.”
ALEJO: “I’d take a bullet for Tueller.”
MILLICENT: “I don’t want to derail the issue but I am also a co-captain.”

Chapter 18, Part I

ALEJO: I reach out and stop Millie from taking the bread, casually, so as to attract as little attention as possible while doing it.
MILLICENT: Millie shoots a quizzical look at Alejo
TUELLER: “We are submitting the defense grid so no further ships run afoul of it.”
TUELLER: Tueller does not pay attention to what’s going on with his co-captains.
ALEJO: He gives her a quick look, and then slides forward on his chair, ready to spring into action.
ALEJO: Alejo lifts the napkin off the bread, slowly, looking at it and the bread underneath.
STORY: Oh hey.
STORY: There’s a grenade in there.
TUELLER: “The bad news is…”

Chapter 17

TUELLER: “Millie. You’re going to have to figure out which one of us is at fault, here.”
ALEJO: Alejo brightens at this and smiles.
TUELLER: “Because….well, this is probably as good a time to mention as any, but your room took a direct hit.”
TUELLER: “And whoever is at fault owes you a new wardrobe.”
MILLICENT: “Yes, someone is going to have to go retrieve my Kubawashi, because it appears to be snagged on the nose of the ship.”
ALEJO: Alejo puts his finger on his nose. “Not it.”
MILLICENT: Millie points to Tueller. “Id.” Points to herself. “Ego.” Points to Alejo “Superego.”
MILLICENT: Millie sighs, “Gentlemen, I think we need each other.

Chapter 16

ALEJO: “Oh my gods, man. We literally just found out where we might go. For an educated guy, you’re about as patient as a . . . ” He trails off looking at Tueller. “Really big guy.”
TUELLER: Alejo’s talking to an empty chair.
MILLICENT: Two
MILLICENT: Two empty chairs
MILLICENT: Millie’s swivels
ALEJO: Alejo stands and heads to the EVAs as well.
ALEJO: “When’d I become the dad?”
ALEJO: He mutters to himself and follows.

Chapter 15

TUELLER: “You’re the captain now.”
TUELLER: “Let me know how it goes for you.”
STORY: “Oh, dear.”
TUELLER: “Heavy lies the crown.”
STORY: You spend a few hours gliding through space on a different trajectory. It’s now well into the night.
STORY: Noma beeps through again. “Sensor readouts indicate a large mass of rock, organic material, and… electronic activity.”
STORY: “Low radio signals, but whatever that is, it appears to be… on.”
TUELLER: Toggling ship wide comms: “Everyone who’s up get up here.”
TUELLER: Quietly enough not to wake deep sleepers.
TUELLER: “Sorry, you’re not the captain anymore.”
TUELLER: “Good job, though, girl.”
STORY: “Thank you, Mr. Ya’Makasi.”
